New fire hall in Fleetwood added to Surrey’s major capital projects

A new replacement fire hall in Fleetwood is the latest addition to the City of Surrey’s major capital projects, reflecting a long-term commitment to supporting growth and public safety. Fire Hall No. 6, located at 152 Street and Fraser Highway, is being demolished to make way for future development along the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain line.

The $30-million replacement is scheduled to begin design work in 2026, with construction expected to start in 2027 and be completed in 2028.

“Surrey continues to move forward on key capital projects that will strengthen our community and improve the services people rely on every day,” Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke said. “We’re setting the stage for spaces and facilities that will serve our residents for years to come. Our commitment is to build a city where everyone feels safe, connected, and proud to call home.”

Planning and preparation continue across other major capital projects, including new recreation and cultural facilities. At the regular council meeting on July 28, City Council also received an update on the Cloverdale Sport and Ice Complex. The first two ice sheets are now scheduled to be completed by mid-August, with staff planning to use the facility for programming in September. The design for the third ice sheet is nearing completion, with construction set to start in October. The facility was also recently featured in the June 2025 edition of Award Magazine.

On Monday night, Council also approved a request from staff to give the City Manager temporary authority to increase the budget for early construction work on the Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre expansion, currently in the procurement stage. The full construction contract is expected to go to Council in September, with work slated to begin in October.
