New Live Green World attracts crowds at 2019 Party for the Planet

Attendees check out the Live Green World stations at the 2019 Party for the Planet event held on Saturday, April 13 at Civic Plaza in Surrey.

THE City of Surrey hosted its ninth annual Earth Day celebration, Party for the Planet, at Civic Plaza this past Saturday, inspiring thousands of attendees to live more sustainably.

Sponsored by TD, this year’s event featured the new Live Green World, where guests attended environmental workshops to learn more about growing vegetables, caring for trees, hosting sustainable park events, meditation, Indigenous smudging and sustainable apparel manufacturing. A variety of local and sustainable marketplace vendors included aromatherapy products, natural healing soaps and massage bars, beaded moccasins, earrings, dreamcatchers, mandala art, beeswax food wraps, pottery and sustainable cleaning products.

“This year’s Party for the Planet encouraged attendees to be more sustainable in their personal lives and in their community,” said Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum. “Thank you to all of our passionate sponsors, performers, vendors, staff and volunteers who put on a fantastic event. Your contributions continue to help our city advance as a leader in sustainability.”

Over 700 fruit, deciduous and evergreen trees and over 1,000 native plants were sold at the popular Tree and Plant Sale, while the Adventure Zone was filled with families and children who rode the zip line, climbed the rock wall, competed in road hockey and enjoyed the local food trucks. Guests enjoyed music throughout the festival site, as live performances were held on the TD Main Stage, the City Centre Library, inside the Live Green World and throughout the City Hall Atrium.

“TD is proud to return as the presenting sponsor for the Party for the Planet for nine consecutive years,” said Bill Cunningham, District Vice President TD Commercial Banking. “We are thrilled to be part of British Columbia’s largest Earth Day celebration, and to be a part of one of the best and greenest communities in the province. TD has 16 branches and other offices in Surrey and over 650 employees who call Surrey home. Giving back to our local communities, our strong relationship with the City of Surrey, and our desire to contribute to a healthy planet—these are truly what makes TD the green bank.”
