North Vancouver RCMP investigating two early morning structure fires

NORTH Vancouver RCMP are investigating two structure fires and are asking for any witnesses to contact them.

Just before 6:45 a.m. on March 30, RCMP were notified of a structure fire at the Lynn Valley Lodge located at 1371 Lynn Valley Road. North Vancouver District Fire Rescue Services worked to contain the blaze as traffic was diverted away from Lynn Valley Road between Mountain Highway and Allan Road.

Shortly thereafter, just before 7 a.m., RCMP were notified of a second structure fire at Duke of Connaught Lodge No. 64 (North Vancouver Masonic Centre) located at 1142 Lonsdale Avenue. The building was fully engulfed while North Vancouver City Fire Department fought the fire, and Lonsdale Avenue was closed between 13th Street West and 8th Street West.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation,” said Sgt. Peter DeVries. “As the investigation unfolds, we will gain a better understanding of the cause of these fires, whether or not they are related, and if the evidence will establish that these were in fact the result of arson.”

RCMP are asking anyone who may have video surveillance, or who may have witnessed anything suspicious near these locations between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, to contact them at 604-985-1311.

If you have information about these incidents, but wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
