OBITUARY: BALBIR SINGH KAILEY

BALBIR Singh Kailey, affectionately known as Bilu, suddenly passed away on May 3, 2024 at the age of 77. Balbir was born on March 4, 1947 in Adekali, Punjab to Kartar Kaur and Lieutenant Colonel Balwant Singh Kailey.
Growing up he showed a strong interest in literature and went on to achieve a Masters in English Literature from Punjab University in Ludhiana. In 1974, Balbir immigrated to Richmond, B.C. to join his sister Biro. In 1975, he was joined by his wife Parmjit.
He went on to work at sawmills for over 30 years and took on union leadership positions.
In 1986, he was overjoyed by the birth of his daughter Sandeep. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing games and going on road trips. His hobbies included Western books and movies and WWE wrestling. He enjoyed his daily walks.
He is survived by his loving wife Parmjit (Pam), daughter Sandeep (Jasvir), and grandchildren Shanavi and Armaan. He will also be missed by his extended family and friends. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all that knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held at Riverside Funeral Home on 7410 Hopcott Road, Delta, B.C., on Monday, May 13 at 1 p.m.
A prayer service and lunch will then follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Gurdwara Nanak Niwas on 8600 No. 5 Road, Richmond, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Balbir’s honour.
