One man died after the car he was driving went into a deep ditch early Friday morning on River Road in Delta.

Sgt. Sarah Swallow, a spokeswoman with the Delta police, said at around 6 a.m., a passerby called 911 to say there was a car in the ditch.

When officers arrived, they found the lone occupant of the car unresponsive. He was later declared dead at the scene.

Swallow said police don’t know what happened yet, but will be looking at factors such as speed, frozen road conditions and whether the man had been drinking or taking drugs, as part of the investigation.

She said at this point investigators don’t have any witnesses who saw the car go into the ditch.

The man’s name and age have not been released., pending notification of family.
