Police-involved fatal shooting in Vancouver

THE Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, August 19 in Vancouver.

IIO said that information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that shortly after 4 p.m., police were called to residential building near the intersection of Rupert Street and Vanness Avenue about a dispute between two people.

When officers arrived, they encountered one man reportedly in possession of a weapon.

There was then an interaction and the man was shot by police.

Officers provided aid to the man until the Vancouver Fire Department and BC Emergency Health Services arrived, but the man later died at the scene.

The IIO was notified about the incident shortly after it occurred and is now investigating.
