Port Moody strip mall fire deemed an arson

PORT Moody Police announced on Thursday that the fire that seriously damaged multiple businesses at a strip mall in the 2900-block of St. Johns Street. on Wednesday, September 3, has now been deemed an arson.

The Port Moody Police Major Crime Section has assumed conduct of the investigation.

On Wednesday, just after 1:30 a.m., Port Moody Fire Rescue and Port Moody Police Department responded to a structure fire at the strip mall. The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters and there were no injuries. The fire was contained to two businesses.

However, the intended target of the arson is not cooperating with investigators at this time, police said.

“Any potential witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage in the Saint Johns corridor between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. is asked to contact us,” said Constable Sam Zacharias.
