PRIME Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday said in a statement on Ramadan: “At sundown tonight, Muslims in Canada and around the world will begin observing the holy month of Ramadan.
“In the weeks ahead, families and friends will gather in homes and mosques for prayer and reflection. After fasting from dawn to sunset, they will break their fast with iftar – the traditional evening meal. For those observing Ramadan, this is a time of reflection, gratitude, and celebration.
“As this sacred period begins, far too many Muslims in Canada are continuing to face troubling acts of Islamophobia. Combatting hate is a top priority for this government, and Islamophobia has no place in our country.
“At the heart of what it means to be Canadian is the fundamental value that everyone has the right to freedom, security, and the ability to thrive in our society. Together, we can build a country where all Muslims can live safely and proudly, without intimidation or fear.
“I wish everyone observing Ramadan a blessed and peaceful month.
“Ramadan Mubarak.”

PREMIER David Eby said in a statement in honour of the month of Ramadan:
“As the crescent moon rises tonight, Muslims in British Columbia and around the world will begin observing Ramadan.
“In this sacred month, we are reminded of the importance of surrounding those who are hurting with compassion and care. As the community begins this month of prayer and reflection, our hearts will remain with the community of Tumbler Ridge, which has suffered an unimaginable tragedy. We will hold the victims, their families and the entire community in our thoughts and prayers.
“Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, fasting, prayer and acts of generosity. Families and communities come together to share meals at iftar, support those in need and celebrate the Muslim values of compassion, gratitude and service to others. Now more than ever, we are grateful for these acts of love.
“Ramadan reminds us of the resilience of communities facing challenges, both near and far. Inspired by this spirit of perseverance and solidarity, here in B.C. we remain committed to standing against Islamophobia, hate and discrimination, and to building a province where everyone feels safe, respected and included.
“During this month of renewal, let us consider how we can strengthen the bonds within our communities, build understanding across faiths and backgrounds, and lift each other up with kindness and respect.
“I wish all those observing Ramadan a month filled with peace, reflection and hope.
“Ramadan Mubarak.”

CONSERVATIVE Leader Pierre Poilievre said in a statement on the start of Ramadan:
“Nearly two million Canadian Muslims are setting out on a path of fasting and reflection. For billions around the world, the month of Ramadan is a time defined by prayer and introspection, fellowship and charity.
“For generations, Canadian Muslims have built their lives and businesses here in the True North. As our friends and neighbours, they have made positive contributions at all levels of society – helping strengthen the nation we know and love.
“As Ramadan begins, all Canadians can give thanks to live in a country with a proud tradition of religious freedom: where citizens of all faiths can worship and raise their children as they see fit.
“On behalf of all my colleagues, I want to send my warmest wishes to our incredible Muslim communities from coast to coast to coast.
“Ramadan kareem!”
