PRIME Minister Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen on Wednesday offered their deepest condolences on behalf of all Canadians to the family, friends and colleagues of RCMP Constable David Wynn who died in the line of duty after being shot in St. Albert, Alberta.

Harper added: “Our thoughts and prayers are also with Auxiliary Constable Derek Bond who was seriously injured in the attack. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.”

He said he would like to congratulate the courageous first responders who worked so diligently and at great personal risk to help the RCMP officers and commend all authorities involved in locating the armed and dangerous individual responsible for the attack.

Harper said: “This was a brazen and cowardly assault on our brave law enforcement officers. It is a grim reminder of how law officers in communities across the country put their lives on the line every day to protect Canadians from harm. We mourn with all RCMP members today.”

The RCMP announced on Wednesday that there will be a regimental funeral to honour the life and service of Constable David Matthew Wynn on Monday, January 26 at Servus Place in the City of St. Albert, Alberta.
