Prohibited dump truck driver caught impersonating brother sitting beside him

JUST when you think you have come across every type of tactic used by drivers to try and evade police, along comes a new one!

On November 18, the Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (LMDCVE) group conducted a planned operation on Lougheed Highway at Kingsland Drive. The team inspected 40 commercial vehicles, and of those 40 inspections, 21 vehicles were placed out of service.

There was a total of 40 inspections, with 21 commercial vehicles being placed out of service, 99 violations being identified, and 54 violation tickets being issued.

Burnaby RCMP said: “Of note, a dump truck was stopped because of illegible dangerous goods placards. The driver was later found to be impersonating his brother, who was sitting in the passenger seat, as he was prohibited from driving due to an earlier Burnaby RCMP impaired driving offence.”

Police added: “The investigation is ongoing, and the applicable charges will be forwarded when appropriate.”

Constable Kevin Connolly with Burnaby RCMP’s Traffic Services said: “The number of trucks being placed out of service is still way too high and this particular driver now faces several potential charges, including impersonation and obstruction.”

Connolly added: “Wd plan on continuing these types of initiatives all over the Lower Mainland, into the new year and beyond.”
