VANCOUVER Police announced on Tuesday that they have identified and charged a suspect in connection with the assault of a 73-year-old man in Kitsilano after they issued a media release on Monday.

Police were called on July 31 after the 73-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by an unidentified man near West Broadway and MacDonald Street shortly before 4 p.m. Investigators believe the suspect was yelling at passersby when the victim approached him and asked him to stop yelling and move along.

The two men became involved in a verbal altercation, during which the suspect allegedly pushed the victim to the ground. The victim suffered head injuries as a result of the assault

On Monday afternoon, police received multiple tips from members of the public reporting sightings of a man matching the description of the suspect near West 4th Avenue and Vine Street. Officers attended the area and arrested the man without incident.

“We want to thank the public for all the tips we received in relation to this assault,” says Constable Megan Lui. “We were able to quickly locate and arrest a suspect.”

Paul Henry Desroches, 53, has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
