RICHMOND Councillor Kash Heed has been facing a barrage of racist comments and threats from some Chinese Canadians who opposed a motion to explore setting up a supervised consumption site in Richmond.
One person told him to “go drive a taxi!”
Another said they hoped that he and his daughter would become drug addicts and die.
Heed told the VOICE that he has been receiving “vile” emails using the F-word.
The racists told him “people like you are our servants” — a reference to Indian immigrants in Hong Kong in low-level jobs. One person wrote: “You must be a racist. Don’t you know Richmond is Chinese?”
Heed, a former solicitor general and police chief, has lived in Richmond for almost six decades.
Some even threatened to send people to his house. Heed told The VOICE that he has had to take security precautions to protect his family.
Angry and disgusted Canadians point out to The VOICE that Chinese Canadians should be the last people to resort to such shameful behaviour especially after what they went through during COVID.
Some say that these are probably the same Chinese Canadians who belong to some Christian evangelical groups in Richmond and Burnaby who also opposed Muslim refugees from the Middle East some years ago and supported the then-Conservative leader Andrew Scheer who egged them on just for votes.
