Richmond RCMP investigating fatal single-vehicle collision

RICHMOND RCMP are investigating a single-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a 37-year-old male from Delta on Tuesday.

On December 19, shortly before 11:30 a.m., Richmond RCMP responded to the area of River Road and No. 8 Road for a serious motor vehicle incident.

A white 2006 Acura sedan was discovered partially submerged in a ditch after colliding with a hydro pole. The driver, a 45-year-old male from Delta managed to escape from the vehicle. The passenger was rescued from the vehicle with the assistance of the driver and good Samaritans, but required life-saving first aid.

Both occupants sustained injuries and were transported to hospital by the BC Ambulance Service. By late afternoon, the passenger, also from Delta, had succumbed to his injuries.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors in this collision. The road conditions are being considered as factors in this collision.

The Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) is investigating.
