Richmond RCMP arrest prolific break-and-enter specialist

ON September 4, officers from the Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit (PCU) arrested a major property crime offender. The lengthy and painstaking investigation utilized every policing technique, tool and technology available and culminated in connections made to multiple break-ins from August 2018 to January 2019.

As of August 1, the BC Prosecution Service approved the following charges against Shane Brandon Lee Takakenew, 23, of Vancouver:

·         Three counts of break and enter to a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence of theft

·         Nine counts of break and enter to a dwelling house

The accused has a lengthy list of conditions set out by the court including:

·         not to be within the city of Richmond

·         not to be on any private residential property unless it is owned or leased by him

·         not to possess any tool or instrument that can be used for criminal activity

“We are releasing a photo of this individual in order to further our own investigations, obtain additional information from the community, and to prevent further offences. We wish to re-assure the community that we never rest,” said Sgt. Simon Lee, NCO i/c Richmond RCMP Crime Reduction Unit. “If you observe Mr. Takakenew in breach of any of these conditions, contact us immediately.”
