Richmond RCMP arrest three suspects in alleged break-and-enter

SHORTLY after 3:30 p.m. on February 17, Richmond RCMP received a report of a possible break-and-enter in progress. The complainant advised she saw a male suspect allegedly trying to break into a bike storage room in the 7700-block of Gilbert Road.

Through the complainant, officers learned there were three suspects inside of the parkade who were attempting to leave in a Kia Sorento. Checks on the vehicle’s licence plate revealed it had been reported stolen out of Vancouver. The complainant advised the overhead door to the parkade would not open so the suspects exited the vehicle and were on foot. The complainant provided detailed information on the location and descriptions from a safe location.

Richmond RCMP’s frontline officers and bike unit quickly contained the area. The bike unit located and arrested one suspect who exited the building on foot. Two other suspects were located and arrested inside of the building by frontline officers.

“We want to thank the complainant for the detailed information she provided in what could be a very stressful situation. This is an excellent example of how if you ‘see something, say something’ can result in arrests,” says Staff-Sgt. Paula Maan, NCO In-charge of Operations Support, which includes the bike unit. “We are proud of our officers and their quick, coordinated response that resulted in these arrests.”

Two suspects were released on police undertakings with conditions. The third was held in custody on an unrelated matter. Charges are pending. This investigation remains active.
