RICHMOND RCMP said on Friday that through further investigation they have determined the man and woman from the August 13 assault with a weapon at a parkade of a retail shopping centre in the 6500-block of No. 3 Road are known to each other.
Police said it is not a stranger assault as previously reported. Investigators determined this once they were able to interview the victim.
Police received a call from an on-duty security guard who heard the commotion and intervened.
The woman is recovering at the local hospital in stable condition and the man remains in custody.
Richmond RCMP said they want to reassure the public there is no ongoing risk as this was an isolated incident.
In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, no further information will be released at this time, they added.
