Chandigarh (IANS): The two “brave-heart” sisters who fought against their alleged molesters and attackers in Rohtak last month but were later blamed for picking up fights with boys have now been provided security by authorities in Haryana.
The two sisters, Aarti and Pooja, have been provided three women constables as their security cover, a senior police officer said.
Rohtak district police chief Shashank Anand told media in Rohtak Wednesday that three women security personnel have been deputed with the sisters for their protection.
“The SIT (special investigation team) is looking at all aspects of the case. The sisters have been provided protection,” he said.
Anand also advised people not to put objectionable comments against the sisters on social networking sites. Both sisters are being targeted on such sites.
“We have received complaints regarding this (objectionable comments against the sisters). We are investigating and will register a case under the sections of the Cyber Act,” Anand said.
Both sisters had hit national headlines after a video showed them taking on three youth who they claimed had molested and assaulted them in a moving Haryana Roadways bus Nov 28. The three youth were arrested.
After initially applauding them for the heroic act, the Haryana government last week said that a move to honour the sisters had been put on hold till investigations were over.
Questions were raised from various quarters about the conduct of the girls after another video of them thrashing a youth in a park in Rohtak town emerged and went viral. The new video was shot prior to the bus incident.
The Haryana government also took back its decision to suspend the driver and conductor of the Haryana Roadways bus for not helping the sisters.
After the youth were arrested, an old woman, who claimed to be a passenger in the same bus, claimed that the youths had not indulged in harassment of the sisters. She claimed that the fight between both sides started over taking a seat on the bus.
Family members and lawyers of the accused youth claimed that the two sisters were habituated to picking up fights and thrashing boys.
A third video had also emerged in this episode in which the father of one of the accused is shown beating him up inside the police station premises and forcing him to feel sorry for the incident with the girls.
