SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC 4 – VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC 1

Brian White scores 10th goal of the season

SEATTLE, WA – Vancouver Whitecaps FC (9W-9L-10D) fell 4-1 on the road against rivals Seattle Sounders FC (17W-5L-6D) on Saturday night.

Sounders FC would open the scoring five minutes in, as defender Shane O’Neill headed home a ball in from wingback Kelyn Rowe to give the home side the 1-0 lead early on.

Nine minutes later, Seattle would once again find the back of the net, with midfielder Nicolas Benezet driving in the Sounders’ second goal.

In the 18th minute, it was the ‘Caps turn to go forward.

After winning the ball back in midfield, Ryan Gauld found Deiber Caicedo in space on the far side. The Colombian then cut inside and fired a right-footed strike off the crossbar, almost scoring his fifth goal of the season.

The ‘Caps would continue to press forward and were finally rewarded for their efforts in first half stoppage time, as Gauld squared a ball into the middle for Brian White, who scored his 10th goal of the season to give the ‘Caps some life heading into the break.

However, Seattle would once again go two goals ahead at the start of the second half as Will Bruin fired a shot into the top corner to give his team the 3-1 lead.

The Blue and White would continue to push, as Dájome and White both had great chances three minutes apart to get a goal back but neither could direct their efforts past Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

Seattle would add another late as substitute Léo Chú notched his first MLS goal.

The Blue and White will now turn their focus towards another crucial Western Conference clash next Sunday, October 17 against Sporting Kansas City at BC Place. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT. You can catch the match live on TSN1 and AM730, with the radio pre-game show starting at 6 p.m. PT. Tickets are still available at whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
