A serial groper pleaded guilty and was sentenced for sexually assaulting four strangers in 2023, following a Vancouver Police investigation.
The VPD’s Sex Crimes Unit initiated multiple investigations in the spring of 2023, after a number of women reported being assaulted by a stranger while walking downtown, near BC Place and Rogers Arena.
During the investigation, police released images of a suspect and asked the public for help to identify him. Tips from the public led police to Hussein Al-Shami, 25, who was arrested and charged with four counts of sexual assault.
In court, Al-Shami pleaded guilty to sexual assault. The judge granted him a conditional discharge, placing him on probation for 30 months.
