SGT. Sanjay Kumar has stepped into the role of Media Relations Officer at the New Westminster Police Department.

Kumar joined the New Westminster Police Department in 2005. In addition to spending time on patrol, he spent seven years on the Emergency Response Team and three years on the Major Crime Unit.

“I have a real soft spot in my heart for this city,” said Kumar. “The communities here are close knit, and people here look out for one another. That’s why I’m excited to step into this role – I’m eager to share with residents how we’re responding to their needs, and sharing the stories of our frontline officers.”

This new role includes being media spokesperson, and assisting with other communications channels including the New Westminster Police Department social media, website, and safety campaigns.

“We’re posting and answering questions on a daily basis,” said Kumar. “We’re open to trying new things like our Instagram live ride-along. That continues to be very popular.”
