Sikh Research Institute hosts weekend of Sikhi-inspired programs across GTA

TORONTO: The Sikh Research Institute Canada (SikhRI) will be hosting a series of events across the Greater Toronto Area this coming weekend. As part of their mission to provide educational resources to Sikhs as they lead a Guru-inspired life, the workshops will target different segments of the local Sikh community.

“In order for Sikhs to connect with their faith and make it relevant in their lives, we must present Sikhi in a way that is engaging, informative and impactful. We’re delighted to have the Sikh Research Institute here this weekend to do just that” said community organizer and parent Ramandeep Kaur Grewal. “We will have programming for children, married couples and families.”

On Friday, February 13 at 7 p.m., SikhRI Co-Founder and CEO Harinder Singh and his co-presenter and wife, Gurpreet Kaur, will be doing a workshop on love and relationships in Sikhi.  “Love is the fundamental force of life. It forms the basis of all life pursuits and their motive,” says Harinder Singh. “We will look at love and relationships through a Sikh lens. We’ll explore what it really means to be in love and how it reflects in our relationships from Gurbani’s perspective.” The workshop will take place at Cassie Campbell Community Centre (1050 Sandalwood Parkway West, Brampton).

On Saturday, February 14, Harinder Singh and Gurpreet Kaur will be facilitating the Grihast or Householder Living workshop for young married Sikh couples to strengthen their values in marriage and family relationships. “We will talk about building the foundations of married life by reflecting on the Guru’s vision and ideals on marriage,” commented Gurpreet Kaur.  Simultaneously, author Inni Kaur will take children through a journey of various sakhis (historical stories) of the Sikh Gurus. She’ll be reading from “Journey with the Gurus”,  a three volume set of “retold” stories based on the life and travels of Guru Nanak Sahib. Both sessions will go from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm and will also take place at Cassie Campbell Community Centre.

In addition to these public workshops, SikhRI will also be engaging directly with local organizations to facilitate internal sessions on gurduara governance, Sikh culture creation and leadership development.
