‘Caps busy week ends in defeat at SKC

KANSAS CITY, KS – A busy week of action for Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2W-3L-1D) ended in a 3-0 road defeat to Sporting Kansas City (3W-2L-1D) on Sunday afternoon at Children’s Mercy Park.

Sporting would find the opening goal in the 28th minute through Daniel Salloi, who pounced on a loose ball in the area to give SKC the 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later, SKC would double their lead thanks to an Alan Pulido penalty kick, meaning the ‘Caps would go into the halftime interval down by two.

Pulido would get his second of the match and Sporting’s third 13 minutes after the break with a neat finish at the top of the box, beating Maxime Crépeau to his near post.

Rookie right back Javain Brown made his MLS debut as a second-half substitute. Theo Bair and Érik Godoy also made their first appearances in 2021.

Centre back Andy Rose, who had started each match for the ‘Caps so far, sat out due to a left adductor injury suffered last Wednesday. Full back Bruno Gaspar, who made his first MLS start this week, was also unavailable, currently working through a right knee irritation.

The ‘Caps play their last match prior to a four-week break when they visit Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday, May 22 at BBVA Stadium. Catch the game live on TSN and AM730. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. PT.
