TWENTY-ONE youth got a head start on this year’s Love Where You Live campaign by committing a total of 85 hours to cleaning up their neighbourhoods over Spring Break. Over 92 bags of garbage were removed by the youth, who pledged to take the 20 Minute Challenge, an initiative that asks residents to clean their neighbourhoods for 20 minutes per week.
“These youth took our 20 Minute Challenge to a whole new level by taking the time to help clean up our City over Spring Break,” said Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum. “As we head into the warmer months and more families use our parks and picnic areas, the concept of the 20 Minute Challenge is more important than ever. If we all do our part, we can create a welcoming community for everyone to enjoy. I want to thank these young leaders for their efforts and volunteerism over Spring Break.”
The 2021 Love Where You Live campaign starts on April 22, but volunteers can pre-register online now by visiting surrey.ca/lovewhereyoulive. Volunteers will be provided with clean-up equipment to support their commitment.
