The Squamish RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred at approx. 3:15 pm on Sunday, November 17th at the Squamish Community Garden Plots, near Hwy 99 and Mamquam Rd.
The victim was at the garden plot when the suspect approached and engaged her in conversation about the area. Although his English was poor he indicated he had come to the area possibly three months prior and claimed to live somewhere towards the west side of Hwy 99 and Mamquam Rd. The male also indicated that he was possibly a farmer in India, where he used to grow sugar cane.
The suspect began asking the woman personal questions, then tried to embrace her, touching her in an inappropriate manner. When rebuffed, the suspect tried to carry on a conversation as if nothing had happened. The victim left the area immediately afterwards.
The suspect was described as an East Indian male, approx. 50 years of age, 5’6″, with a stocky build, clean shaven, and wearing a blue turban and dark windbreaker. He was described as having eyes that protruded or “stuck out”, bulging.
Another unknown female gardener was present earlier, who the suspect had spoken to before approaching the victim. This woman had left prior to the incident. The RCMP would like to speak to this woman as part of the ongoing investigation.
A composite sketch was completed by the RCMP’s Division Artist and is attached herein.
