Students injured by firecracker in South Vancouver school

VANCOUVER Police are investigating after two teen boys were injured by a firecracker set off inside their school hallway on Thursday morning.

An unknown person set off the firecracker by the gym entrance of David Thompson High School near Argyle and East 55th Avenue on October 31 just after 10 a.m., hitting two students as they were walking by. One student was taken to hospital for a facial injury and the second student suffered temporary loss of hearing.

The suspect has not yet been identified, so it is unclear if he or she is a student at the school. School liaison officers will be working with school administration and parents as the investigation unfolds.

VPD’s Youth Services Section is conducting an investigation. Anyone who witnessed the assault, or anyone with information, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3144.
