Indian Standard Time Trio at Darts Hill Gardens

SEPTEMBER 2020 –This fall, tune in for a selection of shows brought to you from Surrey Civic Theatres Digital Stage, a recent initiative to support local and Canadian artists that audiences can enjoy from the comfort and safety of their own homes. Fall 2020 on the Digital Stage will feature a wide array of local and international performances, ranging from classical music, scary stories, theatre, and closing with perennial Canadian favourite, Tom Jackson’s Huron Carole

Details of each show are listed below, and a more in-depth media release will be sent out for each performance.  All seven shows will be online at Surrey Civic Theatres Digital Stage. The musical Ingenue celebrates the life of Deanna Durbin, “Winnipeg’s Sweetheart” and her friendship with Judy Garland. Judy Garland might be the icon and household name everyone knows today, but in the 1930s, “Winnipeg’s Sweetheart” was a far greater star. Durbin was a favourite of Franklin Roosevelt, Anne Frank, and Winston Churchill. Ingenue tells the story of Durbin’s life through the lens of a reporter visiting her home in Paris after her retirement and unravels the true forgotten tale of a lifelong friendship—and rivalry—of two Old Hollywood stars.

Join accomplished musicians, Amarjeet Singh, Baljit Singh and Bruce Harding for a show that is the perfect marriage of setting and song. Filmed in Surrey’s picturesque Darts Hill Garden Park, this talented trio will delight audiences with the enchanting and soothing sounds of the tabla, flute, and dilruba.

Me, My Mouth and I

Watch a screening of the cutting-edge documentary about neurodiversity in the arts, Touretteshero: Me, My Mouth and I. This documentary follows artist, activist, and performer, Jess Thom, who has Tourette’s syndrome, as she takes on the biggest creative challenge of her life. In Me, My Mouth and I, Jess takes the audience on a funny and unpredictable journey of discovery into one of Samuel Beckett’s most complex plays, Not I, and asks us to reconsider issues of representation and social exclusion.

What a Blast!

Enjoy a rousing performance from members of Surrey City Orchestra. This lively hour of music will feature musicians from the brass section, who will delight audiences with a variety of styles of music, all washed down with a selection of amusing stories and anecdotes.

The Flame: Scary Stories Edition

This Halloween, tune in for a night of Scary Stories from a variety of accomplished, local storytellers, hosted by award-winning actor and one of the creators of the Mom’s the Word series, Deborah Williams.

Bach on the Bench with the Bergmann Duo 

Premieres November 12, 2020

11am–noon

Surrey Civic Theatres presents entertaining musicians and storytellers, The Bergmann Piano Duo. The performance will feature joyful and energetic music including a set of Beethoven variations, as well as pieces by Bach, and some Spanish/Latin music.

Start your holiday season with a Canadian music tradition that spans more than three decades. Expect an evening of contemporary and signature Christmas music, along with stories creatively crafted by Tom Jackson. This performance will be one of several across Canada raising funds for local food banks and family service agencies.
