SURREY City Council on Monday approved a $772,800 award of contract to replace the synthetic turf field at Tom Binnie Park.

“Surrey has many turf fields that are in constant use by our local sport clubs for practices, games and tournaments,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “Modern and well-maintained sports fields are a great way to optimize field time and increase opportunities for residents and sport users to keep active and healthy.”

The scope of work related to the synthetic turf contract was awarded to AstroTurf West Distributors Ltd. and consists of the removal and disposal of end-of-lifecycle synthetic turf, extraction, and collection of existing turf infill for reuse, remedial civil works on subgrade, and the supply and installation of replacement synthetic turf surface on Field # 1 at Tom Binnie Park. The work is expected to start this month and be completed by October 2022.

Thirty-two capital projects have been approved by Council under the $203 million Capital Program (2023-2027). These projects range from a new stadium at Bear Creek Park, an Indigenous Carving Centre, a third sheet of NHL size ice at the Cloverdale Sport and Ice Complex to smaller scope enhancements like a sports hall of fall, park improvements and new playing surfaces for sports fields.
