Surrey Police arrest alleged armed barricaded suspect

SURREY Police Service and RCMP members on Friday morning requested the assistance of the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (Lower Mainland IERT) following a report of a man allegedly armed with a gun at a residence in the Guildford area of Surrey.

Shortly before 9 a.m., a woman reported being confronted by a man with a gun at a residence in the area of 106 Avenue and 140 Street. RCMP officers responded and contained the residence. Attempts to call out the man were unsuccessful. The Lower Mainland IERT was called and took over operational command.

A nearby school, Our Lady of Good Counsel, was put in “secure and hold” while police continued the investigation and attempted to take the man into custody. That “secure and hold” has now been ended.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., the man was taken into custody by the Lower Mainland IERT. The man remains in custody and at this time no firearms have been seized. RCMP officers are on scene and the investigation continues.
