Surrey RCMP correct information circulating online

SURREY RCMP said on Thursday that they are aware of a social media post circulating in the community, and want to provide accurate information to the public.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on January 11, Surrey RCMP received a report of an attempted kidnapping of a youth involving a vehicle in the area of 156 Street and 26 Avenue in South Surrey. The youth observed a vehicle, felt unsafe, and sought assistance at a nearby residence.

“Through investigative steps, we have determined there was no interaction between the driver of the vehicle and the youth, and there was no evidence of an attempted kidnapping,” said Sgt. Tammy Lobb of the Surrey RCMP Media Relations Unit.

“The youth in this incident felt unsafe, and did the right thing by seeking assistance. Police conducted patrols in the area as a precaution, and there is no risk to public safety.”
