ON Tuesday at 9:20 p.m., the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Mercedes CLS550 at King George Boulevard and Highway 10. The vehicle fled from police and was subsequently located on Highway 99, south of the Serpentine River overpass.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and ran from police into the nearby wooded area. The SGET, with assistance from frontline officers as well as Integrated Police Dog Services (PDS), Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (LMDERT) and Delta Police Department (DPD), conducted an extensive search for the driver.
The driver was not located; however, he has been identified as a 44-year-old man from Langley. Police said that they located evidence of drug-trafficking. A warrant is being sought for the driver’s arrest.
This was an isolated incident and there is no risk to public safety, according to police. The investigation continues.
As a result of this incident, Surrey RCMP had to close the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99 in and around Mud Bay Park on Tuesday night.
Investigators are requesting anyone with any information, including dash camera footage from the area, to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote File 23-115317.
