SURREY RCMP North Community Response Unit (NCRU) had another successful day of targeting retail thieves through their ongoing Boost and Bust Operation on Monday, December 18 at Guildford Town Centre Mall.
Police arrested 15 people and recovered approximately $4,000 of stolen goods. Some of the items recovered included liquor, high-end clothing, razors, toothbrushes, sharpie marker packages, cosmetics, and food items.
Two suspects were arrested after they tried to get away with over $2,300 worth of clothing from two separate stores. Several other suspects were arrested for stealing liquor. In total, police are recommending 10 charges for theft under $5,000.
“Police officers and retail security staff are working very closely in our shopping spaces throughout the city. We make many arrests on the spot, but some investigations take more time, and the arrests are made at a later date or a warrant of arrest is issued,” says Staff-Sgt. Nigel Pronger of the Community Response Unit. “In January most of us will be worrying about trying to stick to New Year’s resolutions, but for thieves it will be worrying about upcoming court dates, or a knock on the door from police!”
