Surrey teen arrested in Vancouver for attempted robbery, assault and assault with a weapon

VANCOUVER Police arrested a man for attempted robbery, assault and assault with a weapon Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect, a 19-year-old Surrey man, allegedly approached two men in an underground parking lot near Columbia Street and West 2nd Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. and demanded money from them. The men called police and the suspect ran away.

The suspect then accosted a passenger in a stopped vehicle. The passenger fought the suspect off and the driver drove away.

When the responding officers arrived on scene, the suspect appeared to grab an elderly man, threatening him with a knife. Officers were able to free the victim and there were no injuries to the victim or the suspect.

“This was a dangerous and dynamic situation,” said Constable Tania Visintin on Thursday. “Officers arrived on scene very quickly and thankfully, no one was injured.”

The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.  Charges relating to robbery, and assault with a weapon have been recommended to Crown counsel.
