Surrey’s Eric Basran wins at Canadian Qualification in Montreal

ERIC Basran of Surrey will be participating in the American Olympic Qualification event in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from March 26-April 3 as well as the World Olympic Qualification event in Paris, France, from May 13-24 for a chance to earn a spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

This comes after Eric defeated Jean Gardy Francois of Quebec last week on Thursday and Leo Kamara of Ontario the following day in his 57 kg weight category – both wins were unanimous at the 2019 Canadian Qualification in Montreal.

The best Elite boxers across Canada were in action to confirm the National Team selection ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualification events next spring.

Eric bagged a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Earlier this year, he won gold in his 56 kg category (Bantam) at the 2019 Super Channel Championships – the biggest Olympic boxing competition in Canada – hosted by Boxing BC at Langford from April 23-27. Eric won both bouts unanimously. He is a four-time gold medalist and a two-time silver medalist at the Canadian Nationals.
