Surrey’s Love Where You Live recognizes Block Watch team

THE Cornerstone Block Watch Team, located at 108 Avenue and University Drive were recently recognized by Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum for their efforts in cleaning up their neighbourhood as part of the City’s annual Love Where You Live city beautification initiative.

Surrey Block Watches were invited to organize a community clean-up in September 2021 with the chance to win a Block Party Prize Pack. Twelve Block Watch groups took part, collecting more than 48 bags of litter combined.  Leading efforts was the Cornerstone Block Watch group, which has been awarded with a block party for their neighbourhood in Spring 2022.

“Block Watch groups across the City work hard to keep our neighbourhoods safe, clean and welcoming, so it’s a natural fit that these dedicated teams participate in the City’s Love Where You Live campaign,” said McCallum. “I thank all of the teams that took part this year, and my congratulations to the Cornerstone Block Watch Team for their prize-winning efforts. I look forward to working with you all when Love Where You Live starts up again next Spring.”

The City of Surrey supports clean-ups like this by coordinating the large and hazardous item pick up, as well as promptly collecting litter bags.  Groups are also provided with clean-up equipment including litter pickers, bags and safety vests. Love Where You Live will return in May 2022.
