TRANSLINK on Monday released its winter service changes schedule. Starting January 3, 2022, improvements will be made on five bus routes and modest frequency changes are coming to a small number of routes.
TransLink ridership is at approximately 60 per cent of pre-COVID levels and ridership is expected to be between 60 to 80 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in 2022. To better match service levels with customer demand, TransLink previously announced modest frequency adjustments on 37 routes with lower ridership. For example, some Coast Mountain Bus Company buses that come every seven minutes now, will come every eight to 10 minutes at times of day when ridership on that route is low.
Five routes will see improvements to capacity and frequency to reduce overcrowding. Service on busier and lowest frequency routes will remain the same as today. All changes will maintain frequent service and avoid reducing service below 15 minutes.
These changes will not be noticed by most customers and will leave 98% of bus service untouched. Skytrain, SeaBus or West Coast Express will continue to provide 100% of pre-pandemic service.
TransLink said it will be responsive to any customer concerns it receives and will do its best to modify service within its resources.
