Trudeau allowed fraud and chaos in Canada’s immigration system: Conservatives

THE Conservative Party of Canada on Friday slammed the government for ‘breaking Canada’s immigration system,” saying, “this is clear from a Globe and Mail report today, which revealed that more than 10,000 foreign student acceptance letters from Canadian colleges and universities were flagged as potentially fraudulent by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.”

The Conservatives said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his former immigration minister, Sean Fraser, created this problem by giving out a million student visas without paying any attention to how this would affect the country. “On top of this, they turned a blind eye to the rampant fraud and abuse in the International Student Program. Now, Trudeau’s new Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, has written to the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, asking them to fix the problem that his government created,” they added.

The Conservatives said: “This is just another admission of failure from the NDP-Liberal government on immigration. Last month, Trudeau finally admitted that his radical, uncontrolled NDP-Liberal immigration policies are partly to blame for joblessness, housing and health care crises. Even Minister Miller accepted that they caused the system to run “out of control” after nine years of their reckless policies.”

They added: “The NDP-Liberal government now claims that they broke the system on purpose in order to deal with pandemic labour shortages. But this is just another lie. The International Students Program has never been a labour stream. Despite this, there has been a 211% increase in the number of people entering Canada through this program since Trudeau first became Prime Minister.”

The Conservatives pointed out: “Now that the NDP-Liberal government are desperately trying to regain control of this program, temporary foreign students are now claiming refugee status in alarming numbers. Already this year, there have been almost 14,000 asylum claims from international students, up from 1,810 in 2018. This number is only expected to grow.”

They said: “Canadians have no faith that Justin Trudeau will be able to fix the immigration chaos he created. He promised to lower the number of temporary immigrants down to 5 percent of our population, but instead, the percentage has since risen to 7.3 percent.”

The Conservatives said that Canadians deserve a government that will end the fraud in the International Student Program. They asserted that only they could fix what the NDP-Liberals broke and restore an immigration system that works for all Canadians.
