AFTER Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with U.S. president-elect Donald Trump Friday night at the latter’s Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump posted in Saturday evening on his social media platform Truth Social: “I just had a very productive meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, where we discussed many important topics that will require both Countries to work together to address, like the Fentanyl and Drug Crisis that has decimated so many lives as a result of Illegal Immigration, Fair Trade Deals that do not jeopardize American Workers, and the massive Trade Deficit the U.S. has with Canada.”
He added: “I made it very clear that the United States will no longer sit idly by as our Citizens become victims to the scourge of this Drug Epidemic, caused mainly by the Drug Cartels, and Fentanyl pouring in from China. Too much death and hardship!”
Trump said: “Prime Minister Trudeau has made a commitment to work with us to end this terrible devastation of U.S. Families. We also spoke about many other important topics like Energy, Trade, and the Arctic. All are vital issues that I will be addressing on my first days back in Office, and before.”
Trudeau on Saturday posted on X: “Thanks for dinner last night, President Trump. I look forward to the work we can do together, again.”
Trudeau was accompanied by Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc and his chief of staff, Katie Telford.
Pennsylvania senator-elect Dave McCormick posted on X a photo of Trudeau and Trump at the dinner. McCormick, Howard Lutnick, Trump’s nominee for U.S. commerce secretary, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who Trump has selected for interior secretary, and Trump’s nominee for national security adviser, Florida Representative Mike Waltz, were among those in the photo.
Trudeau had spoken with Trump by phone on Monday after Trump’s tariff threat and the following day, Trudeau said it was a good call, telling the media that the two leaders talked about “how the intense and effective connections between our two countries flow back and forth” and adding: “We talked about some of the challenges we can work on together.”
On Wednesday, Trudeau held a virtual meeting with the premiers to ensure a united strategy.
