Two men travelling in a car were arrested here and 99 pistols made in Bihar seized from them, police said.
Mohammad Feroz Alam and Niranjan Mishra bought the pistols from Bihar’s Munger district to sell them in Delhi and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh,” Special Commissioner of Police S.N. Srivastava said. Munger is infamous for manufacturing illegal weapons.
The duo was held from Sonia Vihar area in east Delhi Tuesday evening. The Ambassador car from which the illegal weapons were recovered has also been seized by police.
“They (Alam and Mishra) used to conceal the pistols in a modified cavity behind the headlights of the vehicle,” Srivastava said.
Alam and Mishra used to sell illegal weapons for Rs.20,000-25,000. Earlier, they sold 80 pistols manufactured in Munger to a person identified as Hazi, a native of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh.
“The duo used to supply at least one such consignment every month to Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and other towns in the National Capital Region (NCR),” another officer said.
According to Delhi Police, a total 147 Bihar-made weapons have already been seized this year and five inter-state gangs have been busted with the arrest of 17 people.
Last year, 728 fire arms were seized, four gangs were busted, and 15 people were arrested.
