3:51 p.m. update: The initial investigation into the collision on Highway 99 is concluded and the highway has been reopened.

SURREY RCMP are on scene at a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Sunday, April 28 on Highway 99 in Surrey.

At approximately 4:16 a.m., police received a call of a two-vehicle collision in the southeast bound lanes of Highway 99, 50 meters east of the Highway 91 junction. A late model Ford Sedan was travelling the wrong way into oncoming traffic in the southeast bound lanes of Highway 99. The Ford struck a Mercedes sedan that was travelling southeast bound. The resulting collision caused significant damage to both vehicles.

The 68-year-old female driver of the Ford was transported to a local area hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.

Alcohol and a pre-existing medical condition are believed to be contributing factors to the collision. The incident is still under investigation.

The southeast lanes of Highway 99 are closed at the Highway 91 junction, and are expected to remain closed for several hours. Police ask that motorists find an alternate route.
