University RCMP seeking witnesses in altercation at UBC

THE University RCMP are seeking witnesses to an altercation at the CAWP building which occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday (March 7).

Officers were dispatched to a report of an assault with a weapon in the basement of the CAWP building, located at 2424 Main Mall, at UBC.

The female victim, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, advised that she had intervened in an altercation between a man and a woman. The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

Neither the initial victim nor the suspect man was located at the scene by police. Both were last seen running separately from the area.

The suspect is described as East Asian, 6′, mid-20s, short dark hair, dark eyes, square face
with a deep voice and a slight accent (unknown accent origin). He may have scratches on the right side of his face and neck. He smelled of cigarette smoke.
He was last seen wearing a black puffy jacket (similar in style to Canada Goose), dark jeans and white shoes.
University RCMP are asking anyone who might have witnessed the altercation or have any information about the incident to call police at 604-224-1322.
