NEW Westminster’s Queensborough Middle School organized a Vaisakhi assembly in the school on May 1 – a small but very good initiative taken by their Punjabi teacher Deep Sangra, who with the permission of Principal Lisa Nasato and the help of volunteers Manjot Kaur and Simran Grewal along with Sangra’s students, presented a very entertaining and colourful program in which Punjabi students from grade 5 to 8 participated.
The students performed Bhangra, presented a speech on the importance of Vaisakhi and held a short trivia quiz. All students actively participated in a great show of unity. Trustee for New West School Board, Gurveen Dhaliwal, gave a speech and appreciated the efforts of the school and the students. Also, Khalsa Diwan Society President Harbans Singh Atwal and parents attended the celebration. A good donation was also collected. The program ended with some light refreshments.
