VANCOUVER Police are releasing new surveillance video of the alleged suspect in an unsolved East Vancouver homicide from last year.

“Today marks one year since 37-year-old Zhuowen Gong was stabbed to death while walking near Renfrew and Graveley streets at 9:45 p.m.,” said Constable Tania Visintin on Thursday. “Mr. Gong was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries. We’ve worked for the past year to secure and analyze evidence, however a suspect has not yet been identified and we’re again asking for the public’s help to solve this crime.”

VPD homicide detectives immediately launched an investigation on November 2, 2022, which has included neighbouhood video canvasses, multiple witness interviews and a search and canvass of the crime scene for evidence. It remains unknown what the motive was for this stabbing, and whether this was a random or targeted incident.

“We are releasing video footage of what is believed to be the suspect walking away from the crime scene,” said Visintin. “We are asking the public to take a good look at the footage, if you know who this suspect is, or have any information that could assist investigations, please call.”
