A collision on the west end of the Port Mann Bridge has caused a vehicle fire and traffic delays, but there are no serious injuries. BC Highway Patrol is investigating and working to clear the roadway.
The collision happened on Wednesday, July 30 at 8:50 a.m. on Highway 1 westbound at the west end of the Port Mann Bridge, when a passenger vehicle rear-ended a commercial flatbed truck and the passenger vehicle caught fire.
Highway 1 had to be completely shut down until the fire was controlled by Coquitlam Fire and Rescue. The highway is in the process of being gradually re-opened but there will be westbound delays for some time.
The driver and lone occupant of the passenger vehicle appears to have minor injuries and the driver of the commercial vehicle appears to be unhurt. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but there are no immediate indications of serious criminality.
