VANCOUVER Police on Thursday released video of a man who threatened a stranger with a knife in Gastown last week, and ask anyone who recognizes him to call police.

The 62-year-old victim was walking on Water Street around 3 p.m. last Friday, May 9, when the suspect pulled a large knife out of his sleeve and pointed it at his face.

Video of the incident shows the suspect and victim walking near Cambie and Water Street. The suspect shoved the victim from behind, pulled a knife, and jabbed it toward the victim’s face before walking away eastbound.

The victim was not stabbed and did not sustain physical injuries. He reported the incident to police later that day.

The suspect is a 35-year-old to 45-year-old man with a thin build. He was wearing dark pants, a dark jacket, and a baseball cap.

Police do not believe the victim and suspect knew each other, and the motive is unclear.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect, or anyone who witnessed the incident, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-4022.
