Youth charged in September 11 stabbing in Newton

SURREY RCMP announced on Thursday that one youth has been charged after he allegedly assaulted two men with a weapon on September 11.

On September 11 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a fight in the 6000-block of 130A Street. Police arrived on scene and located two men who had been stabbed. Both men were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects had fled the area in a vehicle.

The Surrey RCMP Robbery Unit took conduct of the investigation and quickly identified the suspects. With assistance from the Surrey RCMP High Risk Target Team (HRTT), officers located the suspects and took them into custody on September 13.

One of the suspects, a 17-year-old male, has now been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of assault causing bodily harm. The second suspect, an adult male, was released from custody without charges.

Police had said earlier that this was believed to be targeted incident as the victims were meeting with the suspects to conduct a transaction. Police were looking for three suspects who were described as three black men in their late teens to early twenties.

The accused remains in custody until his next court appearance.
