IHIT now says it’s investigating a double homicide in Surrey

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said on Friday they are now investigating a double homicide after two men who were known to each other were found dead on Wednesday in a Newton residence.

On Wednesday, May 15, first responders from Surrey RCMP conducted a check of the occupants of a residence in the 6100-block of 151 Street. Officers found two men deceased inside the residence with indications of homicide. IHIT was called to investigate.

IHIT said that homicide investigators have completed evidence collection from the scene but forensic analysis is continuing. The names of the deceased are not being released pending confirmation of identification and notification to their families.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident, contained to the residence, with no further risk to the community or public. The two men were known to each other. Neither of the men have criminal records,” said IHIT.

IHIT is working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the BC Coroners Service, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS). Canvassing efforts are ongoing in that Newton neighbourhood for witnesses and CCTV.

IHIT Staff-Sgt. David Lee said: “We are in stages of determining exactly what transpired at this Surrey residence, but can assure the community that this is an isolated incident and we are not seeking additional suspects at this time.”

IHIT is asking anyone with dash-camera or CCTV video in the area around the 6100-block of 151 Street to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
