2 men arrested after ‘possible explosive devices’ discovered in Richmond apartment

RICHMOND RCMP said on Tuesday they have arrested two men after possible explosive devices were discovered in a residential apartment in the 5100-block of Brighouse Way.

On September 15, shortly after 12:15 p.m. Richmond RCMP received a report of possible ordnance located inside an apartment in the 5100-block of Brighouse Way.

Richmond RCMP secured the residence and conducted a partial evacuation of the building.  They engaged the BC RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit that attended and safely secured the devices. Once the devices were secured the evacuation order was lifted, and residents were able to return to their apartments.

Richmond RCMP arrested two men at the scene.

“We recognize this type of call could raise alarm within our community. We want to assure the public that every precautionary measure was taken to ensure the safety and security of our community,” said Inspector Ed Yoshiyama, Investigative Services Officer, Richmond RCMP.

Richmond RCMP remain on scene as the investigation continues.  There is no further risk to the public.
