The 2017 Volvo S90 is a simply spectacular looking car from the venerable Swedish automaker.  Now owned by Chinese automaker Geely Cars, Volvo’s attention to detail, superb interiors and superior engineering and safety attributes still remain The full -sized, four- door sedan S90 is certainly imposing with its big wide shouldered stance and subtle XC90 styling cues from the XC90. The distinctive diagonal slash Volvo grille is flanked by two enigmatic looking headlamps and meld into sleek flanks and a low lean roofline that give the S90 an athletic, yet regal look.   There are two models- the T6 and T8 versions- both in all-wheel-drive format.  There are two trim lines available:  the Momentum ($56,900) and Inscription ($63,000). The S90s is powered by the XC90 sourced powertrains; in the T6, there is a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode transmission. Power is rated at a not-too shabby and rather impressive 316 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.

The T8 is powered by the same two-liter engine, but is hooked up   an electric motor that increases power by an additional 87 horsepower.   A T5 version of the S90 with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four, with power estimated from 240- to 250-hp may also be available in Canada and the US at some point.

I make no apologies here, Volvo makes simply stunning interiors and the S90 is no exception in my opinion. The interior features design cues from the Volvo XC90 and takes it even further with sumptuous combinations of wood trim, deep plush leather and a clean, neat look.   There is flair to the design apparent everywhere from the easy to use Sensus user interface, and the wonderfully designed primary and secondary controls.

To sum up, the S90 is an immensely fine premium quality sedan that competes equally with comparative offerings from the likes of Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW and Audi. It may not offer, more hairy chested engine offerings, but has the slight edge in a jewel-like cabin, performance, comfort and safety. It also looks amazing, with its distinct looks, pedigree and serene, sublime driving experience. It will be a rare car and will definitely stand out from the ranks of more common premium European cars.  Highly recommended for more discerning performance and premium sedan buyers.
