ON Saturday (September 21) at approximately 3:30 p.m., British Columbia Health Services called Surrey RCMP to advise that they were on scene in the 10,100-block of 153rd Street, where a four-year-old child had fallen from a third-story window. An ambulance had transported the child to the hospital for treatment.
After speaking to the people on scene and those from neighbouring residences, it was determined that the child had been climbing on furniture in the residence. The child slipped and fell against a screen that gave way and the four-year-old fell through the window, landing on grassy area in front of the residence.
Surrey RCMP officers of the General Investigation Unit attended the hospital and spoke to family members of the child. The injuries were non-life-threatening, with a fracture being the most serious injury. The child is believed to make a full recovery, police said.
Surrey RCMP would like to remind parents that it is important to ensure that windows and screens are fully secured. Young children do not understand the dangers that doors and windows on upper floors pose if they are not properly secured.
