A 70-year-old English-as-a-second-language tutor has been arrested for sexual interference following an allegation that he inappropriately touched one of his students.
The tutor was hired to teach a 12-year-old girl on Vancouver’s West Side after she arrived in Canada in 2013. Police launched an investigation after allegations suggesting he touched the student for a sexual purpose.
Christopher Jon Adams, 70, was arrested and charged with one count of sexual interference. He has since been released with conditions, pending his next court appearance. Adams may also be known by variations of his legal name, and Vancouver Police are looking to speak with students and parents who may have had contact with him.
Investigators believe Adams lived and worked in Ontario prior to coming to British Columbia, and that he has links to the local Chinese Canadian community. He advertised his tutoring services both online and in Vancouver-based East Asian newspapers, and met some of his students through word-of-mouth referrals.
Police believe there may be additional victims, both locally and outside British Columbia, who have not yet come forward. The investigation continues to be active and anyone with additional information is asked to contact investigators at (604) 717-0602.
